I've been on the verge of an emotional breakdown (mostly do to school work overload) for the past few weeks, and I swear, I almost snapped today. I was up 'til 2:00 AM this morning working on a term paper, the same as the day before, so I took a nap between classes. Barely coherent from my nap, I walked to class. As I cut through the parking lot to get to the back door of the building, on the ground under one of the trees, I saw a poor little dead baby bird. :'( I swear, I started crying on the spot. It was really bad, 'cause I was already running late to class. I tried to compose myself, but I was pretty much traumatized for the first half of the class. If anyone would have asked how my day was going, I would have totally lost it and just fallen to the floor, crying. Luckily, a little into the class, I was distracted enough to keep from embarrassing myself.

And though it's the weekend, I won't be able to enjoy it. I still have at least three projects to work on. :(

The good news... My hair seems to like me this week. I finally figured out how to dry it so it will flip under, rather than out, and stay that way. :) Just one of the few joys I have right now.

=====

My 30th drabble! Okay, so my thoughts wouldn't fit into one drabble, so I wrote two parts. And they're both 100 words!

Title: Splashdown, Part 1
Prompt: "periphrastic"
Spoilers: "Redemption, Part 2"

With mere seconds to act, I Martin-Bakered out of the X-302.

Now, I find myself falling not so gracefully back to earth.

I'm in the cockpit, at least, and not being buffeted around like a fly in a windstorm.

And we're falling.

Not much to do when gravity has you in its grasp -- just pray that the 'chute opens.

Falling.

Still pretty high up.

Hey, I think I can see my house from here.

Falling.

And falling.

And falling.

With so much falling, at an ever-increasing speed, you'd think I'd be concerned.

I'm just kinda bored.

And still falling.

=====

Lack of radio contact.

A real Apollo 13 moment.

Falling.

Did the hyperdrive work?

Did we save the world... again?

Not completely certain, what with all the falling.

But I assume it worked.

If that's true, the X-302 did its job and is gone.

Ah, X-302, we hardly knew ye.

All I can say is farewell. And thank you.

Falling.

The 'chute opens.

I'm in the Atlantic within moments.

The rescue team comes for me.

I wave to let them know I'm okay.

There's no periphrastic thank you, but I'm grateful all the same.

"Thanks for the lift home, guys."

Author's Notes:
1. Martin-Baker is "the world leader in ejection seat and escape system technology."
2. Apollo 13, A Brief History -- April 11-17 1970: After a dangerous explosion had crippled the Apollo 13 craft, the three crew members were trapped in space with very little oxygen and power. With three days of ingenious thinking on the parts of both the astronauts and the ground crew, the craft made in back to the space above earth's atmosphere. Radio contact was lost for several minutes during reentry, but all three astronauts survived. The Apollo 13 mission has been called "a successful failure" in that the crew was brought back safely, but they never made it to the moon.
3. "periphrastic" -- expressing, or expressed, in more words than are necessary

But a Harper addiction is no fun when I've run out of fic and stuff to appease me!

I'm going to try and get Erin's second story up tonight (which, I feel I should warn you is so depressingly sad...) Until then though, have you ever been to The Command Deck? It just moved and is a pretty cool site, all kinds of fiction--mostly Harper focused. I've only read some of the stories, though, as my Harper addiction is still pretty new too, but I can try and put together a small list of stories I've read if you'd like some recs. :D

The banner is gorgeous! And I've been a proud Harperchondriac for probably six months now. ;-) Have you joined the yahoo group yet?

And I'll sort through my favorite stories to give you some recs, but I haven't seen any vids yet...

Oh, and I have a Harper page on my screencaps site if you're interested. :: hopes to inspire more banners :: ;-)

OMG... There's a Yahoo groups?!!?!? ::faints::

Heh...yep. :D The Harperchondriacs.

Yeay, Harper pics!! I've discovered a significant lack of them on the 'net. You have some nice ones! Are they from the DVDs or something?

:P yes, they're from DVDs. I'm not updating that site anymore--but I am planning to make a new screen caps page on my new site, and will hopefully take lots of more Harper pics. Just need to find the time. ;) :D

That is SO cute! I'm planning on fixing up a few things on Harperfic tonight, would you mind if I put your banner up on the site? It's adorable...

I put the banner up on Haperfic, thank you so much! :D

::sighs and tries to resist more fic to do research for class project::

Heh...I've been there before, oh, last week... it is so hard to resist the Harper... ;-)
