We are redoing the kitchen in the house I've lived in since I was three. After pulling down the cabinetry, my mom and I discovered something...

This is a calendar from 1956. It was taped to the wall, behind not only the cabinets but a sheet of plywood behind the cabinets! Was it left there as a sort of time capsule? Was it left there because the contractors were too lazy to take it down before putting up the wall and cabinets? We don't know, but I find it pretty darn cool, whatever the reason.

Thus, I would like to put something in its place before the new cabinets go up. But what should it be? Another calendar? A photo of the family? Mention of something going on in the world right now? "Beware the weeping angels"... what?!

I need suggestions, please. And hurry! The cabinets could be ready within the week!

I like the idea of a newspaper page. Or maybe the cover of a news magazine, Time maybe? But it should be some sort of important news I think. Or maybe not. How helpful am I not?

My vote? At the very least, you need a weeping angels reference.

Also, wow. That calendar is so the fifties! You could make a calendar for this month, but it would have to be very now-ish.

That is so incredibly cool, by the way. :]

I like the idea of doing something more personal like including a family picture and maybe something like a note that says your favorite tv shows and books of 2007, and other events and things from this year.

Or you can just so something strange and have pictures of Action Ben doing things in the yard.

What a cool idea! I agree re the newspaper frontpage but don't put up a horrible, sad frontpage. Maybe something Christmassy, or at least cheerful. Take a pic before you paint it all up, k?

Wow that is so cool.

Along with whatever you leave you should put a note explaining what you found and all that so whoever finds it will know why.
