September 11, 2001:

I was in 11th grade and in my first class of the day when one of the other teachers more or less burst into the room and told us. We turned on the news and watched pretty much the whole time. At some point, I saw the actual collapse of the second tower on screen. The teacher had been out of the room in that moment, but came back quickly. When someone told her what we had just seen, she said she felt sick. The feeling was mutual.

I'm sure there will be a lot of remembering going on today, personally more than anything else, I think. It's four years later now, and no, I haven't forgotten. I don't think anyone can ever forget how completely helpless one feels in times like that. But life goes on. It always does. What we really need to remember is that we need to go with it...

I think a lot of people watched the second one fall. We all heard about what was going on, but it wasn't until the second one that people were really paying attention. That image of it falling, and the emotions that I felt at realizing I was watching so many lives being lost, will forever be burned into my mind.

September 11 is my dad's birthday. I was at home. We weren't doing anything in particular yet. We were anticipating my sister and her kids coming over to have a birthday get-together and probably go out to eat. We just stayed home, got take-out type stuff instead, and kept an eye on the news.
