Surreal Experience
February 15th, 2005 02:40 pmI walked into the college dining hall for my usual lunch break between classes. As I was scoping out what "wonderful" things they had to offer today, a particular site stopped me in my tracks. There, next to the buttered rolls, was a platter of muffins. A cornucopia of muffins, and of many types. In that moment, I swear, time stood still and the level of sound around me dropped to almost mute. I'm really not sure if it really happened or I just imagined it, but I heard a faint choir of angels singing as I approached the platter, the muffins with their glistening, almost glowing, muffin selves. I reached for one, and as soon as it was in my hand, all sound returned and everything moved at a normal pace. After I got in another line to get my "real" lunch, I looked back to get one last glance at the platter, but it was gone. I would have believed it all a dream had I not had two little muffins sitting on my tray, almost staring at me.
The Dining Hall, in my almost two years of attending this college, has never had muffins at lunch, and only sometimes for breakfast. What are the chances that I'd come in just in time to get some muffiny goodness before they disappeared?
It was a great day for my tummy.
